FIR Filed Against Former BJP MP Pratap Simha in Mysore Police Station Attack Case

Mysuru, Karnataka: The Karnataka Police have registered an FIR against former BJP MP Pratap Simha for his controversial remarks about Muslims in connection with the recent attack on Udayagiri Police Station in Mysuru. The complaint was lodged by Syed Abrar, President of the Youth Congress, alleging that Simha’s statements were inflammatory and could incite communal disharmony.

Complaint Details

According to the complaint, Pratap Simha made derogatory remarks suggesting that Muslims were not rightful citizens of India and accused them of increasing their population without contributing to the nation. Syed Abrar stated that such statements are not only offensive but could also create tensions between Hindu and Muslim communities.

Pratap Simha’s Controversial Statement

Earlier, Simha had commented that Muslims should have migrated during the Partition and alleged that they have since done nothing but grow in numbers. Known for his strong Hindutva stance, the former Mysuru-Kodagu MP has been involved in several controversies due to his provocative remarks in the past.

Background of the Incident

The unrest in Mysuru began after an objectionable social media post by an individual named Satish, also known as Panduranga, a resident of Kalyannagar. The post reportedly ridiculed opposition leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, and Arvind Kejriwal while also containing inflammatory remarks against a particular religious group.

Following the post going viral, a large group from the minority community assembled outside Udayagiri Police Station, demanding immediate action against the accused. Despite police attempts to calm the crowd, including intervention by religious leaders, the protest escalated into violence. The mob resorted to stone pelting, attacked police personnel, and vandalized the official vehicle of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP). In response, authorities were compelled to use a lathi charge and tear gas to disperse the rioters.

Political Reactions and Arrests

The BJP and the Rashtra Suraksha Jan Andolan Samiti have condemned the Karnataka government’s handling of the situation and announced plans for a large-scale protest in Mysuru on February 24. They argue that the government has failed to take strict action against those involved in the police station attack.

Meanwhile, authorities have arrested 17 individuals, including an Islamic religious leader accused of delivering a hate speech that allegedly incited the violence.

The case continues to spark debates over communal tensions, political rhetoric, and law enforcement in Karnataka.
