Bajrang Dal Workers Protest at Haridwar College Over Iftar Party
Police Intervene as Right-Wing Group Raises Objections, Investigation Ordered
Haridwar, India:
A group of Bajrang Dal workers stormed into Rishikul Ayurvedic College on Saturday, protesting against an Iftar party organized by Muslim students on campus. The right-wing activists alleged that the event was a deliberate attempt to invite outsiders and disrupt the religious harmony of the city.
Police quickly intervened, calming the situation, but the protestors left with a stern warning of intensified agitation if the administration failed to take action within three days.
What Led to the Protest?
According to reports, Muslim students organized an Iftar gathering on Friday, inviting guests from outside the college. Bajrang Dal functionary Amit Kumar claimed that such events should not take place in Haridwar, which he described as a “Hindu religious city.”
“Rishikul Ayurvedic College holds historical significance. It was founded under Rishikul Vidyapeeth by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. Students from across the country come here for medical education. Organizing such an event is against the city’s ethos,” Kumar stated.
He further alleged that the event was part of a larger “conspiracy” and that Haridwar’s Municipal Corporation bylaws prohibit non-Hindu religious gatherings in the area.
College Administration’s Response
Rishikul Ayurvedic College Director, Dr. DC Singh, confirmed receiving a complaint about students hosting an unauthorized gathering.
“Some students brought food onto the campus without prior permission. When we became aware of it, we immediately stopped the event,” Singh said.
A committee has been formed to investigate the incident, and a report will be submitted to the administration soon.
What Happens Next?
Bajrang Dal has issued a three-day ultimatum, demanding action against the students involved. If the administration does not respond, the group has threatened a more aggressive protest.
Meanwhile, the police are monitoring the situation closely to ensure that tensions do not escalate.
